FAQ

Straight answers before launch

Everything Velpo tracks, what it deliberately doesn't do, and how your pet's records are looked after.

The basics

Velpo keeps day-to-day care records for dogs and cats in one place. You can log:

  • State — mood, optional notes and concerning signs.
  • Feeding — meal slots, saved foods, appetite, amount eaten and water intake.
  • Activity — walks, play, training and previous walk entries.
  • Rest — sleep quality and hours slept.
  • Medication & care — scheduled/as-needed medication, treatments, appointments, weights and symptoms.
  • Moments — photos, notes, places, and share cards.

You only ever log what's useful to you — there's nothing you're required to fill in.

No. Velpo is a pet care and wellness organisation tool. It helps you keep records and notice patterns; it is not a veterinary, medical, or emergency service, and it does not diagnose, assess urgency, choose doses, or provide treatment advice. If you're worried about your pet's health, contact your vet.

Velpo is built for iPhone, with an Apple Watch companion — it is iOS only. The iPhone app is the full experience; the Apple Watch app supports walks and quick care actions such as state, food, medication, treatment, notes and red-flag capture on the go. You download it from Apple's App Store.

Not at the moment. Velpo is designed for iPhone and Apple Watch, and an Android version is not planned for the foreseeable future. Building deeply on Apple features (Sign in with Apple, HealthKit, on-device intelligence, Apple Watch and widgets) is what lets Velpo stay this focused and private, so we're concentrating on iOS for now. There is no full web app either — the website is for information and the waitlist.

Velpo is coming soon to the App Store. Join the waitlist and we'll email you when it is ready to download.

Velpo Plus & pricing

Yes — the core of Velpo is free. You can track one pet, log daily care across all six areas (state, feeding, activity, rest, medication and connect), use the wellness engine, capture Moments, set vet appointments and reminders, and use the Apple Watch companion and home-screen widgets — all for free, with no time limit.

Velpo Plus is a paid subscription that unlocks shared care, up to six pets, and additional features. Pricing is coming soon and will be shown before any purchase.

Velpo Plus includes everything in the free tier, plus:

  • Up to 6 pets (free tier: 1 pet)
  • Shared Circle — invite partners, family members, walkers and pet sitters
  • Multi-device sync & cloud backup
  • Moments map, mosaic & on-this-day
  • Care Insights — plain-language pattern recognition from your logs
  • Full care history beyond the free 7-day window
  • Walk route history & maps (live walk tracking is free)
  • Custom food creation (viewing and logging existing foods stays free)
  • Weather prep alerts — push notifications for conditions that may affect your pet
  • Vet report export (PDF)
  • Weekly reflection

Velpo Plus will be available as a subscription. Pricing and plan details are coming soon — we'll show the price and terms clearly before you buy. Subscriptions are processed by Apple and managed through your App Store account settings. The app itself is free to download.

Weather prep alerts are push notifications that tell you about upcoming conditions — like heat, cold, strong wind or storms — that may affect your pet. Non-storm conditions send one morning digest covering the next 24 hours; thunderstorms push immediately on detection so you can act fast. Alerts use your pet's location (with your permission) and are personalised to your pet's sensitivity profile. This feature requires Velpo Plus.

Yes. Velpo includes home-screen and lock-screen widgets so you can see your pet's current state and today's care at a glance without opening the app. Widgets are part of the free tier — no subscription required.

The wellness engine

Velpo's wellness engine looks across what you've logged over a rolling two-week window and weighs it into an overall care picture. It considers several areas of wellbeing:

  • Comfort & mobility
  • Nutrition, hydration & elimination
  • Activity, play & enrichment
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Rest & recovery
  • Environment, agency & care

Each area contributes to the whole. The score is based on the entries you make; Velpo does not invent care facts.

Only the things you log inside Velpo — state, feeding, activity, rest, medication, symptoms, treatments, appointments, weight, reflections and Moments context. It doesn't pull in data from outside sources to judge your pet, and it doesn't need your pet to wear a tracker. If you do record walks, those can optionally be saved to Apple Health, but the wellness picture itself is built from your own entries.

Confidence is Velpo's way of saying how much evidence it has. Sparse logs mean lower confidence. More consistent logging across care areas raises confidence and makes the picture more useful. It is context, not a grade.

Velpo can surface follow-ups for certain owner-entered signs, such as breathing difficulty, repeated digestive upset, or distress. These are record-keeping prompts and safety reminders, not diagnoses. Serious or urgent signs should be handled with a vet or emergency clinic.

Turn on Holiday Mode when your pet is boarding, travelling, or staying with someone who is not using Velpo. Missed routine logs are treated as neutral during that period, and Velpo prompts a return check-in when the mode ends.

Velpo can use Apple's on-device intelligence, where available, for small pieces of optional wording such as reminder variants, captions and empty states. It is not allowed to invent care facts, symptoms, urgency, medication advice or medical conclusions. Important care text is rendered from known app data, with deterministic fallback wording whenever needed.

Pets & breeds

Velpo includes breed support for dogs and cats, including mixed breeds and custom entries. Breed helps with profile context; it never limits what you can track.

The free tier supports one pet. Velpo Plus lets you add up to six pets. Each pet gets their own wellness picture, care history and Moments, and you can switch between them easily from the Home screen.

Velpo supports dogs and cats today, with care areas tuned to each species. Each pet has its own wellness picture, care plan, Moments and shared-care access.

Sharing care

Yes, with Velpo Plus. The owner invites partners, family members, walkers or sitters into a private Circle. Everyone sees the same up-to-date care records for the pets they can access, and entries show who logged them. Invited caregivers need a free Velpo account but do not need their own Plus subscription to participate in a Circle.

Circle members can see and contribute to the shared records for the pets they've been invited to, according to their role. You're always in control of who you invite and can manage or remove access at any time. Only invite people you trust with your pet's information.

Yes, if you enable them. Velpo can schedule routine reminders locally for meals, medication and care tasks, send Circle notifications for shared activity (Velpo Plus), and send weather prep alerts for conditions that may affect your pet (Velpo Plus). You control all notification preferences in Velpo and iOS Settings.

Privacy & data

Some information stays on your device, and some syncs through our backend so your data can restore across devices, work offline, and be shared with caregivers you invite. We use service providers such as Supabase, Firebase Crashlytics, Resend and Vercel. We do not sell personal information, use third-party advertising SDKs, or share data for cross-app advertising. See the Privacy Policy for full detail.

Only with your permission, and only for features you choose to use. Location can power walk tracking and saved places for Moments or appointments. HealthKit can save pet walks as workouts in Apple Health. You can grant or revoke permissions in iOS Settings.

Yes. You can edit or delete many records in the app, and you can request account deletion at any time. To make a data access, export or deletion request, email hello@velpoapp.com. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.

Velpo is operated by Matthias Joekel. Privacy requests can be sent to hello@velpoapp.com. We have not appointed a separate EU or UK data protection representative at this time; if that changes, the Privacy Policy will be updated with the representative's contact details.
